Greater Kashmir

Greater Kashmir is an English-language newspaper printed and published from Srinagar, the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in Indian-administered Kashmir. It was last published on August 5, 2019 and has not been updated since due to a communications clampdown, including the internet, by the Indian government following the removal of semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir. The newspaper began its publication in 1987 as a weekly newspaper. It started its first daily publication in 1989. The Greater Kashmir has its largest base of circulation in Jammu & Kashmir, and is the most widely read English daily newspaper in the state. The Greater Kashmir group (GK Communications Pvt. Ltd) also publishes the urdu publication, Nawa-e-jhelum, as well as the urdu daily, Kashmir Uzma, and an english magazine, Kashmir Ink. As of 2018, it is being published from Srinagar and Jammu at the price of Rs. 5 per copy. Its editor-in-chief is Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo. In February 2019, the Governor's office stopped giving government ads to this paper as well as to the Kashmir Reader. The Kashmir Editors Guild decried this as an attempt to curb the free press in India. ()
